At the entrance to the property stands Larimer County's second-largest cottonwood tree. The tree is believed to have taken root about the time the original buildings were constructed and when the original Larimer County Canal No. 2 ran alongside where Overland Trail road now exists. The tree is more than 130 years old. Careful pruning over the past few years has helped keep the tree standing and safe for visitors.
